Why chemistry beats pressure on a Naples house
Algae and mildew are alive. They put roots into the texture of stucco and the grain of paint, and they feed on the moisture that Naples supplies for free from June through September. Pressure washing takes the top off. The roots stay, and inside a few months the green is back. Soft washing uses a sodium hypochlorite based solution with a surfactant so it clings to the wall and works for several minutes. That kills the organism, root included. When it is rinsed off, what is left is a surface that has been sterilised, not scoured. It takes longer for growth to re-establish on a dead surface than on one that has just been trimmed.
