Why the joint sand matters more than the sealer
Pavers are held in place by the sand between them. When it washes out in the summer storms the pavers start to rock, the edges chip, weeds root in the gaps and ants move in. Every Naples paver driveway that has gone a few years without attention has lost sand. Re-sanding puts it back: dry sand swept into every joint, compacted so it fills the gap completely, then the surface blown clean. The sealer then soaks into the top of the sand and binds it. That is what stops it washing out again. Skip the sand and the sealer has nothing to hold; skip the sealer and the sand is gone by the end of the wet season.
